Paul Smith, Jr. was an Inian Island fisherman until the fishery was closed down in 1974. His nickname is Kush. His Tlingit name is Tok'u eesh; he is of the T’akdeintaan clan, X’áakw Hít \ X’áakw Yádi Hít (Sockeye House & Small Sockeye House). His mother was Arlene Martin, who married Paul Smith, Sr. in 1950.
