Ron Williams

Ron Williams has dedicated his life to helping his people and perpetuating Tlingit culture.
Description: 

Ron Williams (Naak Lanei) is T'akdeintaan clan leader, house Tsalxaan Hít (Mt. Fairweather House), culture bearer and lifelong advocate for his people. He worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs for many years in Alaska and the Lower 48.  He was a graduate of Sheldon Jackson High School in Sitka.  He was a good basketball player.  Ron served many years on the Huna Totem Corporation Board, worked for Sealaska and worked for the Indian Health Service. During the 1944 Hoonah fire Ron was in the Navy.  He is a lifetime member of the Alaska Native Brotherhood Camp 12 and serves on the Executive Council of the Alaska Native Brotherhood.  Along with Jim Austin and Marlene Johnson, Ron was instrumental in the founding of the Huna Heritage Foundation.  As elders passed on, they realized that it was necessary to protect their culture for coming generations.  Ron Williams was adamant about this.
